It's JUNE! Summertime is here....

Or is it?  I woke up this morning and it just never occurred to me that when you live in the mountains you might wake up to this:

Yes, that is an apple tree with flowers finally starting to bloom, covered in slushy snow.

I sometimes forget about living in the mountains, but occasionally it is made clear to me that living at 3800 feet above sea level is different than where I grew up.

That is slushy snow falling in the background of the picture, the type that chills you right down to the bone.  There was so much of it that it made the picture look out of focus.

I think you can just ask the kitties what they think about this snow.  They have spent the morning trying to keep warm!

Or the Australian Shepherd who takes his job very seriously and has to monitor the outside kitties when they leave the yard...

That is one sad wet looking puppy dog!  He won't leave his post to come dry out on the porch, till all his kitties are back home on the front porch.

Some laps are awesome

They say a picture  is worth a thousand words...

Last summer I had a house filled with family, it seemed all summer long there were people around who spoiled this kitty.  He is my Mom-in-Laws kitten, but during the winter she goes to where it is warmer.  The older I get, the better that sounds!  Smoky though didn't understand when he was so used to having a ton of people around, plus a brother to play with, why suddenly there was only my husband to hang out with.  They spent about a month, just the two of them, alone.  He felt totally abandoned and really got attached to my husband, and when I came back he would hardly give me the time of day.  In fact to this day he follows my husband everywhere he goes.  Weird kitty....

What do indoor kitty's do all day?

Well, first they eat and sleep a lot, but occasionally they find a pastime that is a lot more amusing for them.

Sylvester says something is happening outside!

Yes, there is definitely something going on.

See that faint shadow in the tree?

He's not sure exactly what that things is, but he knows he would like to play with it.

This is going to be a long day for Sylvester, camping out just hoping it comes inside.

As I was taking these pictures, my daughter sent me this link to a cartoon.  I thought it really fit what Sylvester was going through, so I included it for you all to see!

Now wasn't that funny?

May....

It really is May, which means there are supposed to be flowers!  I have spent the last 14 days in search of flowers, all over the property.  Here are pictures of everything I have found....

See I found chickens and kittens, puppy's and goats, and even the snow covered mountain! We shall see what the rest of May brings....

April showers... wait SNOW?? Again?

OK, it really isn't a lot of snow, just what the old timers call a skiff, but geez it is almost May!  That grass should be green, not white!  Ritter agrees and was real excited about going into the barn to get out of the muddy cold.  Well, technically Ritter is excited whenever we talk to him, but especially when he gets to go see the goats, chickens, and barn kitties (ok, there IS a barn kitty behind that door).  Nothing makes him happier then seeing a barn kitty in the middle of the field that he can chase, even if he does get into trouble for it.  Most times the kitties simply rub up against him and give him lots of love though.

Managed to take a picture of one of the wildflowers growing on the hillside...  Click link to read more!

Professional modeling sessions

Sylvester, Smoky and Thump each had a professional modeling session the other day and I thought I would share the results of all their hard work.  I think that Sylvester took it much more seriously than Thump did and really put a lot of hard work into these photo's.  Smoky seemed to not be interested at all, so the others tried to encourage him and give him some new modeling poses.

Thump however did bring some props into the session and used them quite effectively.

Smoky finally settled in and the photographer did manage to get a couple decent shots, but his might have to be redone.

Kitty with no name....

From Kitties

I am nameless and would really like to be known by a real name. Can you help me?  I'm a girl, and I was born October 2010.  My family fell in love with me, even though I was supposed to go live somewhere else.  When my new owner decided he didn't want me, they decided to keep me because I am so sweet!  I always greet them and sometimes even want cuddles from them. They want to name me a boring name like Cali, can anyone do better than that?

The life of kittens....

What can I say? This picture says it all! Let's see, they worked hard to get us up to feed them. This link is a perfect example of our nights with these kittens.  Makes us want to wake them up all day long, so they are tired at night!!!  Anyway, they got us up to feed them, then played for a little while till I brought in the fresh milk from the goats.  Time to harass mom till she gives us milk, followed by long naps!

Queen Thump, or Boss Kitty

Orange Flash Thump.... emphasis on the THUMP!

Some kitties have extensive vocabularies, a different meow for each activity. Thump on the other hand has a different "look" for each activity, and loves to share them with you when appropriate. Such as, MOM! Stop moving, I am trying to sleep!

Two kitty heater day....

Well, I would say this is a definite indication that it's a reasonably cold day. Two kitties in front of a heat disk heater, wonder where the third one is? Maybe he's warm enough with his long fur coat!

Sleeping....

Caught this picture of Smoky sleeping on the monitor stove. He woke up when the flash went off and quickly sat up, like "That wasn't me!"

Kitten's and fresh milk.

After milking Red today I gave some leftover milk to the kittens. They seem to be enjoying it. In fact, Sylvester told me I could give him milk every day!

Ok, it looks so innocent...

But what you don't see is that it's been chewing on the box for my Bunn coffee maker. No, I didn't just leave the box on it's side waiting to entice kittens. It was sitting upside down, so they couldn't get inside. They chewed on the bottom corners and then figured out if they tipped it over they could get in. Kittens are so very very naughty!!!!
